Fast Facts:

  • 2022 Kirkland Signature Sancerre, Loire Valley, France ($15.99 @Costco in California – Item #1476058)

Ever since word leaked from the east coast that the Kirkland Signature Sancerre had started to arrive, we have been scouring our local Costcos here on the left coast looking for this gem. At last our efforts were rewarded, and on the first day of Spring no less.

Near as we can tell, Costco skipped the 2021 vintage. Now that it is back, the price is a buck higher.  But not two bucks, hehe.

The Kirkland Signature Series wines are always a good value in our opinion, but the house favorite here is this Sancerre, hands down.  I lost count of how many cases we went through in my house (and out by the pool) last summer.  It was a long, sad winter while we waited for this bottling to return. But like the long sunny days of Spring and Summer, return it did.

And if you like this wine as much as we do, do what we did – stock up!  This one comes and goes before you can say “pool party.”

Tasting Notes:

I think the back label provides an instructive set of notes and expectations for how this wine presents and why:  “Kirkland Signature Sancerre is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the most famous appellation of the Loire Valley of France. Grapes are grown on the three terroirs found in Sancerre – chalk, flint, and clay-limestone- each adding a degree of complexity. Aroma: lemon and ripe citrus mixed with peach and white fruit. Palate: concentrated and refreshing with minerality and a fruity finish. Pairing: seafood, white meat and goat cheese.”

It’s just turned Spring, but this Kirkland Sancerre will make a nice poolside companion through the long hot summer to come.  This is one to stock up on – now, before the rest of the Costco universe beats you to it.
