Fast Facts:
- 2020 Kirkland Signature Sancerre, Loire Valley, France ($14.99 @Costco in California – Item #1476058)
We have commented on the shrinking wine set (especially imports) at Costco in recent posts. Ditto for Trader Joe’s. Well the dam may have broken, and our ship has clearly come in because a recent visit to my local Costco here in Southern California had bins and bins of new current vintage Kirkland Signature Wines – all imports. So expect us to be on a bit of a Costco streak for the next several weeks. Sorry, not sorry Trader Joe’s.
The Kirkland Signature Series wines are always a good value in our opinion, but the house favorite here is this Sancerre, hands down. I lost count of how many cases we went through in my house (and out by the pool) last summer. It was a long, sad winter while we waited for this bottling to return. But like the long sunny days of Spring and Summer, return it did – and with a price discount. Yep, in an environment where prices on just about everything are going up, up, up, Costco has trimmed nearly a buck off of this wine and slipped it under $15. Maybe the dollar has strenghthened against the Euro? Google knows…I know.

Tasting Notes:
I think the back label provides an instructive set of notes and expectations for how this wine presents and why: “Kirkland Signature Sancerre is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the most famous appellation of the Loire Valley of France. Grapes are grown on the three terroirs found in Sancerre – chalk, flint, and clay-limestone- each adding a degree of complexity. Aroma: lemon and ripe citrus mixed with peach and white fruit. Palate: concentrated and refreshing with minerality and a fruity finish. Pairing: seafood, white meat and goat cheese.”
It’s just turned Spring, but this Kirkland Sancerre will make a nice poolside companion through the long hot summer to come. This is one to stock up on – now, before the rest of the Costco universe beats you to it.
