Fast facts:
- 2019 Umani Ronchi, Casal di Serra, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Italy ($11.99 @ Costco, California – Item #1148623)
We talk frequently about the things to look for when choosing a wine. We often cite “the right grape, from the right place.” We could add to that list: the right importer.
I have worked for decades with Vineyard Brands (the importer of this wine) and they care deeply about which wines they choose to represent. (Spoiler alert, most importers and distributors don’t.) They don’t suffer dogs lightly, as evidenced by this wine being bestowed 90 points by the hyper-fussy Wine Advocate.

With its natural high acidity, wines made from the Verdicchio grape are great food wines. This is true of most wines from Italy and the old world, where the wines were crafted first and foremost to be paired with the foods of the region. This is less true in the new world.
Tasting Notes:
Light and luminous in the glass. The wine offers simple but enticintgly pure aromas of spring flowers, citrus, cut grass and crushed limestone. It is bright, tart and fresh and closes with a hint of saline (love!) while tangy acidity keeps it fresh and juicy.

One more reason to reach for this lovely wine if your local Costco is stocking it? It is certified organic. It is icing on the cake, by golly!
