Fast Facts:
- 2021 Kirkland Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, Suscol Vineyard, Napa Valley, California ($17.99 @Costco in California – Item #1491800)
In our home, we have two Kirkland Signature wines which are personal favorites. The first is the Sancerre which arrives in the Spring. And amongst a fairly sizeable portfolio of red wines, this one that is our Wine of the Week just nudges out the Barolo for the top spot in the red wine department.
We chatter regularly about the importance of the right juice, from the right places. And there is no arguing Cabernet Sauvignon from the world renowned Napa Valley fits the bill. Heck, Cabernet is THE reason Napa is every critic’s darling. Well, maybe except a French critic or two. C’est la vie.

Like the aforementioned Sancerre, this wine historically sells out faster than toilet paper during a pandemic. My local Costco was down to a few stray bottles this week, so get on it good people. They had plenty of TP by the way, so relax.

Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby on the pour with magenta on the edge. Aromas of wood smoke, red fruit and black cherry waft from the glass. Smooth, deep and rich on palate, more sweet black fruits and mocha then gentle tannins frame the long, earthy/herby finish. ABV = 14.5%
Off the top of my head, I believe this is the only single vineyard wine (also know as a vineyard designated wine”) in the Kirkland portfolio. Hence, the $17.99 price point is pretty, pretty sharp. If you pine for massive, extracted Cabs that are heavily oaked, this isn’t it. But if you enjoy a pure expression of world class CabSauv not masked by a forest of oak, you will really like this wine.
