Fast facts:

  • 2023 Maison Barboulot, Rosé of Cinsault, France ($5.99 @Trader Joe’s, California)

Trader Joe’s does it again. Right after we reviewed an incredible $4.99 red wine value from one of our favorite wine retailers for high QPR, comes this $5.99 wine just in time for the warming temps headed our way.

If you were basking in the sun at a sidewalk café in France, this is likely what you’d find in your glass come happy hour. Heck, maybe even lunch hour. It’s made from 100% Cinsault (pronounced “SAN-soh”) grapes, grown among the morning mists and Mediterranean sea breezes of the Pays d’Oc region. Cinsault lives in a world between categories; it is a red grape that is often too light in color to bottle alone, but can really shine when it’s grown to be a Rosé.

Tasting Notes:

Pours a lovely salmon-blush color,  It begins with delicate floral, citrus and honeydew melon aromatics.  On the palate, it is lean with light red fruit and lemon balm notes with a crisp, refreshing finish. This wine’s bright acidity makes it the perfect foil for creamy pasta dishes or New England clam chowder.  Try with just about any seafood and shellfish. Or, since the ABV on this bottling is just 12.5%, maybe brunch it up and pair this with bagels, lox and a schmear with capers.

Bottle and glass of rose wine
A grey day, a brown dog and a pink wine…

The Maison Barboulot name should be a familar one to our readers, as their Syrah – Cabernet is a perennial favorite of ours from the Trader Joe’s wine set.  We have reviewed it three times and it never disappoints.
