Fast facts:
2022 Ferrari Carano Siena (Red Blend) Sonoma County, California $16.99 (@Costco, California, Item# 135936)
Ferrari-Carano has been a leading producer of world-class, nationally acclaimed wines since 1985. From a small, 30-acre plot of grapes to the present 20 estate vineyards, their success is based on their commitment to quality as well as the dedication of the vineyard and winemaking teams to make the finest wines, vintage after vintage. Ferrari-Carano owns vineyards in six appellations: Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Napa/Carneros, Anderson Valley and Mendocino Ridge. This wine surely draws from a variety of these vineyards, hence its Sonoma classification.
Named after Siena, the gorgeous medieval city in Tuscany, this wine is a distinctly American homage to its Italian inspiration. It features a unique blend of Sangiovese (the ubiquitous Tuscan wine grape), Malbec, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Notes:
Pours a lovely violet color and opens with aromas of raspberry, cola, caramel and mocha. From the bottle: “Comprised of select lots…this vibrant wine is bursting with aromas and flavors of blackberries, raspberry jam, cola, cinnamon and spice. Sweet oak notes and hints of butterscotch from barrel aging add layers of richness to this elegantly balanced wine with a beautiful, lingering finish. Pair with pizza, red sauce pastas, charcuterie and red meats. Or all of the above! ABV = 14.8%

Now owned by Foley Family Wines, the winery is located in a charming little corner of the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma. Put two things on your To Do List:
- Go and see if you can find this bottle at your local Costco. Although its $16.99 price point represents a very good QPR, you are quite likely to find it elsewhere, also for under $20. (Unless you find it on a restaurant wine list, then all bets are off!)
- Go and visit the Dry Creek Valley, and Ferrari Carano, arguably the most beautiful winery (it has been compared to French Chateaux) in the appelation.
