Fast facts:

Ventura Spirits Angeleno Spritz ($16.99 per 6-pack @Trader Joe’s, California)

We are taking a little deviation (okay, a pretty big deviation) from our usual Wine of the Week you have come to expect on Thirsty Thursdays.

But we just had our first heatwave to kick off the season, and it got us hankering for something light, refreshing, and – well – different. Voila!  This Angeleno Spritz from Ventura Spirits checks all the boxes. Bonus, it has wine in the blend!

And because Ventura Spirits is right up the 101 freeway from the Vinopointer World HQ, we figured we could give them some love since we love their products so much, not to mention their classy retro-grower California packaging.

From the day they began designing and building their still in 2011, the Ventura Spirits mission has been to use the natural and agricultural bounty of California’s central coast to hand-craft novel and delicious spirits. Driven by a sense of exploration and discovery, their team is passionate about creating liquors with infusions that are unexplored or under-utilized. Their aim is to create new products that “foster a strong appreciation for our area of the world.” We winos call that “terroir!”

Tasting Notes:

The Angeleno Spritz is – to use a wine term – complexity in a can. It’s infused with California white wine, sweet orange, chamomile, and gentian root, also used in the company’s stand alone Amaro. The Spritz adds sparkling water and a hint of grapefruit for a bright, bitter kick.  Take it camping, to the beach, or anywhere else you want liquid refreshment in a light unbreakable container, in this “case” six 200mL cans. Pair well with warm sunshine, water and sand between your toes. ABV is 7.5%
